Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate (SDIC) stands as a mainstream chlorine releasing disinfectant broadly adopted across global water treatment and public sanitization sectors. On today’s market, SDIC products mainly come in two tablet variants: standard pressed tablets and effervescent tablets. While both maintain comparable availablechlorine levels, they show clear distinctions in dissolution behaviour, operational practicality and applicable working environments, all of which have real world impacts on field operations and final disinfection results.

When it comes to product specifications, both tablet types reach 56% 60% available chlorine in most commercial batches. Standard SDIC tablets are manufactured by direct compression of pure SDIC powder, with common unit weights of 1 g, 5 g and 20 g. SDIC effervescent tablets mix core SDIC material with food grade bubbling disintegrating agents. Popular single tablet weights cover 1 g, 2 g and 3 g, and custom heavier specifications can also be produced upon request. Because extra functional additives take up part of the formula, each effervescent tablet carries marginally less pure SDIC content compared with a regular tablet of equal weight. Even so, its available chlorine output still complies with the widely accepted 56% 60% industry benchmark.

Dissolution performance creates the biggest gap between the two items. In ambient temperature fresh water, ordinary compressed SDIC tablets contain no disintegrating components. Full dissolution normally takes 15-30 minutes; bigger sized tablets may need even longer contact time. Without constant manual stirring, undissolved residues tend to settle and clump at the bottom of tanks, hindering full free chlorine release. On the other hand, when SDIC effervescent tablets hit water, built-in reactive ingredients produce carbon dioxide bubbles to power fast disintegration. They dissolve completely within 3-8 minutes with zero stirring required. The resulting disinfectant liquid delivers steady, even concentration, preventing solid sediment and local clustering and greatly reducing manual labour on site.

Practical deployment also separates their best fit application fields. Regular SDIC tablets perform optimally in large capacity reservoirs, circulating water loops and aquaculture facilities where gradual chlorine release is desired. They suit situations that do not call for instant liquid preparation. Their main downside is long mixing lead time, which becomes inconvenient for smallcontainer disinfection tasks.

Effervescent SDIC tablets excel for scenarios calling for quick liquid preparation. They are highly suitable for emergency potable water treatment, on site environmental sanitising, food processing equipment decontamination, small scale pool sanitation, pre-sanitisation of shipping containers, disaster relief water treatment and day to day disinfection within medical premises. Operators can get well mixed working solution shortly after dropping tablets into water, ready for spray application, surface wiping or item soaking. Many effervescent versions adopt individual unit packaging, removing the need for weighing tools and lowering risks of incorrect dilution, an obvious advantage for locations requiring frequent smallbatch disinfectant preparation.

For storage requirements, both tablet types demand sealed packaging under cool, dry conditions and must be kept far from acidic substances. Effervescent formulations impose stricter standards for moisture proof packaging; humid surroundings can trigger premature bubbling degradation. Conventional pressed SDIC tablets demonstrate relatively better antimoisture stability. Due to extra effervescent additives and special production workflows, effervescent tablets carry a slightly higher cost per unit of available chlorine.

Industry insiders note neither tablet format outperforms the other in all cases. End-users ought to make selections based on their actual operating conditions. Standard SDIC tablets are preferred for large volume systems that demand sustained slow chlorine release. If rapid dissolution, easy handling and flexible small volume dosing rank high on requirements, SDIC effervescent tablets offer a more practical solution. Driven by growing global needs for public health protection, crossborder cargo sanitisation and emergency water supply programmes, SDIC effervescent tablets are drawing greater attention among international purchasing parties.
