Description of Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose
CMC in battery industry is well in acid-resistance, salt-resistance. The colloid is very stable and it is suitable to make Alkaline batteries and Zo/Mn battery.
CMC, with the strong cohesion, good heat stability, electrical conductivity and electrochemistry property, makes the active substance and electrolyte form the even and dispersive paste, and takes the hydrogen bond effect with the silicon, therefore, it is not only widely used as the binder of cathode and anode, gel for cathode protection, but also widely applied in the silicon base electrode and graphite modification.

Application of Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose
CMC is used as an electrode binder in advanced battery applications (i.e. lithium ion batteries), especially with graphite anodes. CMC's water solubility allows for less toxic and costly processing than with non-water-soluble binders, like the traditional polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), which requires toxic n-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) for processing. CMC is often used in conjunction with styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) for electrodes requiring extra flexibility, e.g. for use with silicon-containing anodes.
