The liquid is particularly popular. Liquid sodium chlorite is white or slightly yellow-green aqueous solution, alkaline, and slightly hygroscopic. It is easily soluble in water and alcohol. Sodium chlorite is relatively stable at room temperature and normal storage conditions, and it is easy to decompose and release chlorine dioxide gas when it encounters acid.
